The great tax holiday of 2011 for air travelers is just about over.
As various federal taxes expired, most airlines lifted prices by an amount equal to the customer’s savings.
ATLANTA (Reuters) - Many U.S. airlines have raised fares in recent days to take advantage of a lapse in U.S. ticket tax collection after Congress failed last week to fully fund the Federal Aviation Administration budget, but passengers are not likely to notice any price difference.
Most airlines are not passing the savings from expired federal taxes to passengers.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Airlines should not "pocket" revenue from a passenger tax that has lapsed during a partial aviation shutdown, two U.S. Senate transportation leaders said in a letter sent to the industry association on Tuesday.
