1) Before booking, look at www.travelzoo.com - Top 20 Best Airfare deals. According to the website, its updated daily.

(2) Be flexible with your vacation dates. Read Sundays local paper for airfare specials. Also, book flights on discount airlines such as: Ted, Southwest and Jet Blue.

(3) Ask nicely for first-class or business airfare upgrades at the counter. You will more than likely get upgraded if you belong to their 'frequent flyer program.'

(4) Join every frequent flyer program possible.

(5) Take a later flight, if your original flight is full, and get a free travel voucher.

(6) Barter - Offer to trade favors with a friend or family member who works in the airline industry.
